Established in 2016, Shape Architecture Studio is a values-driven company committed to pushing the limits of sustainability and design. Fun Fact: The name of Shape Architecture was originally S.H.a.P.E.: Sustainable Habitats and Performance Engineering. The 6 values below inform what we do every day, across all levels of decision-making, internally and externally.
One of our founding tenets has always been to make buildings radically more energy efficient, comfortable, and resilient. We push the boundaries of what sustainability means now and how it shapes our future.
We are not ego-driven architects with a capital “A.” We thrive by working alongside our clients, partners, and communities. We believe passionately that great design should be experienced by everyone.
We believe good design is the result of genuine listening and respect. We work hard to gain a deep understanding and appreciation of the sites we touch, the people we work for and with, and ways to turn project constraints into unique opportunities.
The input of every team member is valued. We rely on talented team members (both internal and external to our office) to provide fresh perspectives and new ways of thinking. We are passionate about sharing our accrued knowledge with our clients, collaborators, and our communities to raise the bar of design and sustainable architecture in the Mountain West and beyond. We also teach, lecture, and freely share our expertise with the greater community.
Good design takes time and is hard work. We value design intuition but also understand, like anything worth doing, creative thinking takes time and effort. As designers, we are committed to unique solutions that stem directly from each site, performance metrics, and our clients’ goals.
We bring a rigor to everything we do as we understand that all pieces of the puzzle are critical to the success of a project. Details matter. Relationships matter. Emails matter. Importantly, we are committed to avoiding wasted time, as we recognize the incredible value of our clients’ time and resources. We work hard to keep processes efficient and avoid unnecessary work or going beyond the point of diminishing returns on every project.
