Curtis Park Historic Renovation

The Curtis Park Historic Renovations honor the legacy of two Italianate homes built in 1887, carefully restoring their character while adapting them for modern life. Located in the heart of Denver’s Historic Curtis Park District, the project brings new life to both a duplex and a single-family house through a thoughtful and informed design process. Working closely with Denver’s Landmark Preservation Committee and the city’s permitting office, our team coordinated each element to align with the original craftsmanship and aesthetic of the neighborhood. When the project began, a twenty-foot section of the north wall of the duplex was missing entirely. Through swift coordination and emergency structural repair, the building was successfully stabilized before further damage could occur. Custom historic doors, windows, and exterior wood trim were recreated with precision to match the architectural details that define these homes.

Throughout the interiors, upgraded mechanical systems and increased insulation improve energy performance and thermal comfort while maintaining the historic charm. Expert masons restored damaged brickwork, while the basement was dug out to add value to a once dark, uninviting space. The single-family house now features a converted attic hideaway that brings new functionality to an existing form.

The exterior spaces were designed to serve as an urban retreat, giving residents a quiet place to gather within the rhythm of the city. Porches and yards were meticulously restored back to their formal glory. Every detail in a restoration of this age was tailored to the bones of the building, from winder stairs to built-in shelving to the unique attic geometries. In honoring these older forms, the result connects timeless craftsmanship with contemporary living.
