The Delaware Hotel has anchored downtown Leadville since its completion in 1886, carrying the spirit and stories of the town through generations. This rehabilitation project was essential for preserving the historical integrity and longevity of the property for years to come. The property moved through a careful, multi-phase rehabilitation that preserved its historic character while bringing new life to its public spaces, guest experience, and street-front presence.

Phase one focused on the Mineral 1886 Restaurant. The dining room design draws from the building’s own lore, incorporating longtime photographs and subtle references to the region’s mining history. The space is designed to feel like stepping into a contemporary interpretation of a gold mine with warm textures, modern furnishings, and a completely rebuilt kitchen that introduces an expanded and welcoming menu.
Phase two focuses on reshaping the main lobby and former entry hall into an active bar lounge with layered seating, a cocktail mezzanine, and a small stage for future programming. New amenities are woven into the historic framework, including a hidden candy room that adds a playful touch to the restored architecture.
Phase three introduces the hotel’s first elevator, an important addition that improves accessibility while respecting the character and integrity of the original structure.
Throughout the guest rooms, the historic charm of the hotel remains central to the design approach. Along Harrison Avenue, the retail space is being transformed into a nostalgic 1950s ice cream and coffee parlor with fresh-baked goods, casual hangout areas and an antique video arcade on the mezzanine. The full renovation aims to celebrate the heritage of the Delaware while creating a renewed destination for both visitors and the broader Leadville community.
